Sketchbook Confidence - Nourishing Sketchbook

  • Course
  • 9 Lessons

This course is designed to build your confidence using mixed media techniques with drawing, colour, print and collage. Working at A3 I will show you how to take inspiration from what is in front of you and create fun and bold pages of colour, pattern, texture and mark as you learn to look and find flow in your sketchbook. The course is studio based, drawing from a collection of colourful seasonal vegetables.

Where do you get your inspiration? How do you start a new project? It can be daunting but it should be fun!

This course gives you a chance to refesh skills, learn new ones and practise your drawing.

You will connect to the season, grow bolder and finish with a sketchbook that is good enough to eat!

A little more insight into the course. If you have any questions, please ask using the links at the foot of the page.

I created this course because I needed to get some colour back in to my sketchbook. I wanted to have some fun building layers of paint and collage, responding to the season and the richness of what I could see around me in nature. I created it for you so you can nourish yourself with connection to nature and the connection to self that creativity gives.

I hope this course emboldens you and brings you joy. I hope it shifts you from creative block to creative flow.

You will end the course with a sketchbook of drawings that are loose, bold, textural and colourful. I will help you find the confidence to draw - your way.

Materials you will need for the class:

  • pens, pencils, biro

  • A3 sketchbook (140gsm paper or above)

  • A3 coloured paper/card

  • acrylic paints

  • acrylic or india inks - black definitely, coloured optional

  • stabilo woodies in white/colours or chalks or pastels

  • distress ink blocks - I use Tim Holtz (optional)

  • a selection of colourful vegetables from the harden, allotment or farm shop

What you will learn on this course:

  • How to find joy in your sketchbook

  • How to turn off the negative self-talk

  • Layering of colour, texture and mark

  • Techniques to draw in different ways as a process of discovery

  • How to stay curious
