A short lesson on how to draw flowers

In my newsletters I share how-to videos and insights into my studio practice and creative explorations. This one keeps getting asked for - a simple tutorial on how to draw flowers.

I love colour, I thrive on rubbing my eyeballs on the hues and shades of my garden and nature in general. I am a sucker for a faded palette - the end of summer when the fields are honeyed and the trees just about to shed their leaves. I also love blooms in a vase as they lose their colour and become inky - especially lilies or tulips.

As you start to draw, think about pattern, shape, line, texture and colour. Don't worry about the end outcome, enjoy working with the materials you have chose and just see what happens!
